2010 Family Camp
Family Camp: SBANT Style
The 2010 weekend of November 19-21 was a great time for the annual SBANT Fall Family Camp at Camp John Marc. Coordinated by Jessica McCoy, 19 families from North Texas enjoyed the festivities of the annual “weekend of fun for families with children living with Spina Bifida.”
“Friday night at camp we started things off with beautiful weather that continued for the entire weekend for the first time in years,” says SBANT Family Camp Coordinator Jessica McCoy. “We enjoyed S’mores on Friday night outside along with our favorite campfire songs and stories.”
Saturday during Family Camp is always a busy day and the 2010 Camp was no different as the day was totally packed full of entertainment. Fishing was a big hit this year. A nature walk, Arts and Crafts, Sports, Games, Cooking and a Ropes course were all a part of the family camp activities.
During the popular parent chat time for the adults, youngsters were entertained by a group of musicians, Chords for Kids, from Texas Christian University. Chords for Kids, offered the SB youngsters and siblings a time to listen and play music, and make musical bottle shakers in order to participate in the musical fun.
Saturday evening come to a close with a great family carnival which included cotton candy, snow cones, games and family photos.
Sunday offered families a relaxing late morning brunch before packing up and heading home.
“It was great to see everyone and to work with our new Camp John Marc Director Kevin Randles,” adds McCoy. McCoy also notes that the 2010 Family Camp was joined by two wonderful new nurses this year, Annie Corrales and Cathy Ross from Baylor’s Our Children’s House.
Thank you to Jessica McCoy for coordinating this incredible weekend once again in 2010!
