2010 Ante Up for Spina Bifida
Brings in Funds and Friends for the SBANT
The second annual Ante Up For Spina Bifida was held at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas, on Saturday, October 9th. The night of fun was a successful fundraiser bringing in more than $9,500 for the Spina Bifida Association of North Texas.
The Texas Hold’em Tournament is a popular night of entertainment with both player and non-player tickets being sold. A nice dinner was offered prior to the beginning of the Tournament giving event attendees time to eat, visit and bet on the horse races while enjoying the silent auction and other activities prior to the Texas Hold’em Tournament which started at 7:30 pm.
The Tournament Champion was Eric Whicker of Mesquite, Texas. His company GTM Plastics also sponsored the Ante Up for Spina Bifida for the second year in a roll. Justin McClintick of Flower Mound finished as Reserve Champion and Dr. Kent Arnold, an equine veterinarian from Terrell, Texas and an All In Tournament sponsor, was the 2010 3rd place finisher.
Trophies for the top two finishers where provided by Accent Awards of Arlington. Whitiker, McClintock and Arnold all received product bags from Starbucks Coffee Company – District 426 for their poker playing accomplishments. The Tournament Champion also won a dozen buntlet cakes from Nothing Bundt Cakes –Dallas and a 2-night stay at the WinStar World Casino. Reserve Champion won a one night stay at Sam’s Town Hotel and Casino – Shreveport, while third place was honored with a one night stay at the Choctaw Casino in Durant, Oklahoma.
It certainly appeared that all Ante Up for Spina Bifida players viewed the charity outing as a fun way to raise funds for the services and programs of the Spina Bifida Association of North Texas while sharpening their poker playing skills. Third place finisher, Kent Arnold said he most enjoyed the comradaree of the players at the final table and the professionalism of the dealers. While second place finisher Justin McClintick said he greatly enjoyed the event venue and the night overall.
The WinStar World Casino joined the 2010 Tournament as the Full House Sponsor. Advocate Medical Services, Alphagraphics- Richardson, Dr. & Mrs. Kenton H. Arnold, Accent Awards of Arlington, GTM Plastics, and Mary McCoy were All In Tournament Sponsors for 2010 Ante Up for Spina Bifida.
The Ante Up for Spina Bifida Texas Hold’em Tournament was established by the Spina Bifida Association of North Texas in 2009 as a night of fun to help the Association raise funds for the many programs and services it offers to individuals living with the neural tube defect in North Texas. The event was also created in an effort to allow for individuals unfamiliar with Spina Bifida to learn more about the disability and become a champion for the cause.
