Matching Gifts: Maximize your Support for the SBANT through your Employer
Corporate employee matching gift programs are a great way to elevate your donation to the Spina Bifida
Association of North Texas. Many employers generously match an employees (and oftentimes even a retirees)
gifts to a non-profit organizations, which can provide an additional avenue for contributions.
Matching gifts are truly just that; gifts that are matched by your employer when you donate. An employer based
matching gift program is typically an agreement to match dollar for dollar. Oftentimes, matching gifts are at
100 percent of the original donation - meaning if you donate $100, your company will match your gift with an
addition $100 donation. The matching must be made within a certain period of time from the original donation
(30 days is standard). Most companies with a matching program have a cap, or limit, to what they will match
for each employee annually.
As a donor you might have a few questions…
What do I need to do to participate in a matching gift program? How do I designate the Spina Bifida
Association of North Texas as a recipient of matching gifts for my donation? It is really pretty simple. Setting
up for matching funds will only take a few minutes to get the ball rolling, and can really make a major
impact for the organization that is receiving the funds. If your employer will match a gift to the Spina Bifida
Association of North Texas, your company’s matching gift form should be submitted with your own cash
donation to the SBANT office.
How do I find out if my company has a matching gift program? Your HR and/or benefits department should
be able to quickly answer this question. Typically they will have you fill out a form and return it to a specific
individual designated to handle matching gifts at your company. If your gift is a onetime donation typically
you can pick up the form and mail it to the office of the Spina Bifida Association of North Texas (SBANT, 705
West Avenue B, Suite 409, Garland, Texas 75040) with your check. From there we will process the form and
payment and mail it to the appropriate address. Typically an employer will mail the matching gift check back
the SBANT Office within 30-days where funds will be deposited and the matching gift can start working to
benefit the many programs the Spina Bifida Association of North Texas offers in our community.
